The noblest task of the riding teacher is to form the mind of the student as well, so that the latter comes to depend on the teacher less and less. ~ Waldemar Seunig |

Moon Dance Equine Lesson Philosophy |
||
| Lessons are usually one hour and are scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30am to 7:00pm, weekday evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. |
Consideration needs to be given to the proper attire for safety and comfort, and the proper mental attitude while around the horses. We strive to make lessons stress free and relaxing for both the rider and the horse. |
|
| ANSI Approved Horse back Riding Helmets are required for children under the age of 18 and recommended for adults. | Bike helmets protect different parts of the head than riding helmets do. We do not allow riders to wear bike helmets.. | |
|
We cater to adults and children who are serious about learning horsemanship. |
All riders must read and sign a Riding Release Form. (click to open and download) |

We believe individual lessons are the best way to provide a high level of quality and safety for both student and horse. |
We do not do group lessons. |
|
| We specialize in teaching beginner and intermediate level riders. Our lessons are very serious as most accidents happen with unskilled riders. | Riding can be a lifelong process and not something normally learned in one or two lessons. | |
We
believe safety around horses is the most important thing a new student
has to learn, both in the saddle and on the ground. |
Horses are large prey animals which means they have a flight instinct that, in the wrong situation, can get someone hurt or killed. | |
| We do not give lessons in stormy weather. | ||
| During lessons we give our undivided attention to the rider. | Riding means controlling every step the horse takes. This takes focus and skill on the part of the rider. | |
| Riding is very physical activity. We teach our riders to not just be passengers on the back of the horse, they must be engaged with all of their mind and body at all times. | ||
|
People wanting to take up riding should
be in a good state of health and fitness.
A body mass index of 24 is within normal range, we recommend a body mass index (BMI) of less than 28 for the rider's safety and the safety of the horse. You can calculate your BMI by going to this site: http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm |
||
|
While we believe in having fun we also know that in order to have fun while on a horse the rider must have a secure seat and be in good control of the animal at all times - achieving this can be a serious undertaking. |
Horseback riding is classified as RUGGED ADVENTURE SPORT, there are obvious and non-obvious inherent risks always present in such activity despite all safety precautions. |
|
|
We expect parents to be involved in their children's lessons, to be present to see what their child is working on and to be on hand to say "Great job! You did well!" |
We are not babysitters. |
